The use of HGH for bodybuilding is a hot topic. When it comes to adding more size, the mindset of most bodybuilders is “you can never be big enough”. Guys like Arnold and Sergio Olivia dominated in the 70s mainly due to their size. By the time the 90’s hit, the bodybuilding world belonged to Dorian Yates, a 6-time Mr. Olympia who was bigger than ever. Of course, since Yates reigned, guys have been even bigger. Many observers think that the dramatic size increases are due in large part to HGH. With that in mind, this article will review the proper way to use HGH for bodybuilding. We will cover what the effects of HGH effects are for bodybuilding, the correct dosage, dosing protocol, how long your HGH cycle should be, and the best type of training and diet to follow.
How HGH Affects The Body
Natural HGH is responsible for growth and development, among many other functions. Synthetic HGH was originally developed in 1985 and approved in the US by the FDA to treat growth hormone-deficient children and adults. The impact of synthetic HGH on growth and development is the reason it has become popular in bodybuilding as well as other sports.
Here’s a look at the benefits of HGH for bodybuilding:
- Stimulates Muscle Growth – One way HGH does this is by speeding up the process of protein synthesis. Another way is by hyperplasia or the division of muscle cells.
- Fat Loss – HGH allows the body to use fat for energy. With HGH, bodybuilders can lose fat and gain muscle at the same time.
- Cartilage & Joint Health – By improving overall joint health and function, bodybuilders can continue to train effectively.
- Mild Side Effects – Compared to other compounds, HGH has very mild side effects.
How Does HGH Improve Bodybuilding Performance?
Once HGH has been injected, it goes into the bloodstream and travels around the body. It then concentrates in the liver and converts into IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor). This compound is responsible for many of the effects of HGH, such as muscle growth. As noted above, one way HGH stimulates muscle growth is by protein synthesis. The actual mechanism of action is through IGF-1, which binds to receptors in muscle tissue and accelerates the process of protein synthesis.
Also as mentioned above, another way HGH affects muscle growth is through hyperplasia. This is an increase in the number of muscle cells due to their proliferation. This can be defined as a rapid increase in muscle cells. In effect, hyperplasia pushes you past your genetic limit for muscle growth. The effects of HGH on muscle growth is significant because, unlike steroids, the gains are permanent. You will not lose any gains at the end of your HGH cycle.

While HGH affects muscle growth indirectly, it’s directly responsible for promoting fat loss. It elevates free fatty acid levels by binding to somatropin receptors. This means that the body will use fat over carbohydrates for energy. What’s impressive about HGH stimulating fat loss is that it does not allow this process to interfere with muscle growth. Think about what that means! With HGH, you can gain muscle and lose fat at the same time.
The Role Of HGH for Bodybuilding
As suggested at the beginning of this article, using HGH for bodybuilding has had a major impact on the size of pro bodybuilders. Look at the difference between Arnold, Yates, and guys like Jay Cutler or Ronnie Coleman. The increase in size is dramatic, to say the least. We’re talking about a 15-20 kg size difference and, as we have discussed, most observers attribute it to the increased use of HGH. Back in the day, it was expected that a pro would lose a degree of size in the process of getting ready for a contest. One of their contest tricks was to lose as little mass as possible. Some guys did a great job of this, others not so much. One example that comes to mind is Gary Strydom’s first Mr. Olympia appearance. When Strydom first emerged, he was huge with tremendous mass and amazing cannonball delts. Needless to say, he was considered a serious contender to knock off Lee Haney, the reigning Mr.O champ at the time. It didn’t happen, mainly because Strydom lost so much size in the process of getting ready for the show. In this day and age, that’s not going to happen, and the main reason is because of the use of HGH for bodybuilding. Guys can hang onto more mass when they compete, so they come on stage ripped to shreds and as big as ever.

“HGH Gut”
As with most things related to bodybuilding, the mindset of “more is better” prevails. This means that HGH can be heavily abused. This abuse has led to a very unfortunate phenomenon: HGH Gut. Some suggest it started with Yates. Maybe, but no doubt you have seen it with today’s pros. They may look great, except for one glaring problem. They look pregnant. If you haven’t seen it, imagine a big, bloated belly with a row of ab muscles clearly visible on the top. That’s HGH gut. To say it has caused a lot of controversies would be an understatement. Arnold himself came out against the look and apparent new direction of the sport. However, it is what it is, and the pros will do what they will do. For pros that don’t want that look, there is a new “classic” category with lines reminiscent of the ’70s and ’80s defining the look. Additionally, amateur competitors do not need to worry about this effect. This is because the pros are on elaborate drug programs that combine compounds such as steroids, HGH, and insulin. It’s the abuse of these drugs, combined with very excessive food intake, that seems to be the reason the pros look the way they do. As an amateur, if you stay within the prescribed range of the drugs you use, and do not abuse them, you shouldn’t have to deal with this problem.
How To Use HGH For Bodybuilding
In this section, we will talk about how to use HGH for bodybuilding: cycle duration, dosing protocols, drug combining, the correct diet to use while on cycle, and training suggestions.
Cycle Duration
The effects of HGH become noticeable after two weeks of use, and average users will see dramatic improvement within two months. Most cycles run at least two months, with the average more along the lines of three-four months. Typically this would be followed by an off-cycle of the same length. When running a longer cycle, you can use a smaller dosage of HGH.

Effective Dosing
The effective dose of HGH for bodybuilding is 4-8 IU. If you’re using HGH for the first time, a dose of 4-6 IU will be effective. Advanced cycles run-up to a limit of 8-15 IUs. Anything beyond 15 IU’s can be considered excessive. As a cautionary measure, if you use 10 IUs or more, it’s suggested to include insulin in your stack to help prevent problems with the pancreas. This is because the primary negative side effect of HGH use is the risk of diabetes.

The Best Time To Inject HGH
Typically, you will take two injections of HGH per day. It will be easier for the liver to process two injections, and two dosages provide more consistent results. The best time to inject the first dose of HGH is in the morning when your level of blood sugar is low. HGH will have the strongest fat-burning effect at this time. Many bodybuilders perform cardio at this time of day, typically on an empty stomach or after a small amount of protein. Injecting HGH in the morning on an empty stomach makes sense because it will effectively burn more fat. This is because free fatty acid levels in the blood will be high.
Even if you are not on a cutting program, you should still take your first injection in the morning. You should take your second one 6-8 hours later when levels of IGF-1 and HGH have begun to decrease. The dose should be the same for both injections. If you find it difficult to take the second dosage at this time, you can take it before you go to bed.
HGH Frequency Protocols
There are two common frequency protocols of HGH for bodybuilding: Every Day (ED) and Every Other Day (EOD).
Let’s look at each:
- ED (every day) – This is the most efficient because it provides a consistent level of HGH and IGF-1. You will get the best results from consistent daily use.
- EOD (every other day) – This is a good choice if budget is an issue. The primary advantage of an EOD protocol is that you can use HGH for a longer period of time. The primary disadvantage is that this will not be as good for fat loss. This is because the use of fat for energy by HGH is dose-dependent.
Some users rotate ED with EOD to balance budget considerations with the advantages of ED use.
Combining HGH And Other Bodybuilding Drugs
HGH works well alone but you can enhance your results if you combine it with other bodybuilding drugs such as steroids and insulin.
Steroids are of course the main drug used by bodybuilders. The combination of HGH and steroids make a lot of sense. Steroids have a stronger anabolic effect than HGH. However, if you combine them you experience a synergistic muscle growth effect. Also, with HGH you’ll gain lean muscle because it burns body fat so effectively.
Insulin is another powerful anabolic compound. HGH and insulin cause a synergistic effect on protein synthesis. However, insulin blocks the fat-burning function of HGH. That makes this combination more effective for off-season mass cycles. This combination is important if you’re taking 10 IUs or more of HGH. In terms of injection times, you can inject insulin about 30 minutes after your HGH injection. You’ll need to be careful when using insulin because it can lead to a hypoglycemic coma, which can be fatal. To ensure safe use, you will want to begin with 2 IUs of insulin and increase your dosage slowly over the length of the cycle.
Specific Bulking & Cutting Combinations
For bulking:
- 6-8 weeks – HGH 6-12 IU + Dbol (30-50 mg/day) or Tbol for 6-8 weeks.
- 8-10 Weeks – HGH 6-12 IU per day, plus Testosterone enanthate, cypionate, or Sustanon (250-1000 mg per week).
For cutting:
- For the length of the cycle – HGH 4-8 IU plus 50 mg of Winstrol/ Anavar.
Nutrition & HGH For Bodybuilding
If you’ve heard the saying “eat big to get big”, this is what it’s talking about. A natural bodybuilder cannot follow such a simple concept. For starters, you’ll eat too many calories and end up gaining fat. Secondly, this saying doesn’t break down your macronutrient profile, meal timing, or other important details. On the other hand, this concept makes sense if you’re using HGH and other bodybuilding drugs. This is because you can pretty much eat a lot of food whenever you want. You should eat high quality, high protein, clean foods, of course. However, you can eat as much as you want because it is difficult to gain fat when using HGH. This means all of your calories will go to building muscle.
That being said, you still need to follow certain guidelines. First, you should increase your protein consumption to 3 grams per kilogram of body weight. Protein is the most important macronutrient whether you’re natural or using HGH and other drugs.
Low carb is the diet many guys follow, but if you’re using HGH, go ahead and eat lots of carbs. They are important for training energy, support muscle growth, and help pull water into the muscle cells. You should always keep sugar in check, but worrying about your carbs won’t be an issue. You can eat carbs freely and still not gain fat.
The typical bodybuilding mindset of eating every 2-3 hours makes sense even if you’re using HGH. This approach helps you maintain an anabolic environment. Drugs or not, you will get your best results if you are in an anabolic state as much as possible.
Training & HGH For Bodybuilding
Any training protocol works when you are using HGH for bodybuilding. Since HGH improves bone density, older bodybuilders can continue to lift heavy if that is their preferred style. Since you can eat more food and more carbs, you will have more available energy for high volume sessions, again if that is your preferred style. If you train using a lower volume but high intensity, such as past failure extended set techniques, the energy will be there as well. Typically speaking, more energy can mean more reps as well as more strength.
How To Choose A HGH Brand
Bodybuilding requires a larger dose of HGH than other purposes, such as anti-aging. Therefore, you will want to choose a high-quality HGH brand that’s also inexpensive. The best choices are Jintropin, Hygetropin, and Ansomone. These brands are 95-99% pure, and they are inexpensive when compared to HGH from your local pharmacy.
